Siskiyou County Info
Siskiyou County is located at the Northern edge of the CA / OR Border, with Interstate 5 going right down the middle of the county. To the East, Highway 97 takes you from Weed to the Oregon Border.
Siskiyou County is ranked 5th in area among California counties, with some 6,347 square miles, but we are only ranked 44th in population among California’s 58 counties with about 45,000 folks.
History and Activities:
1851, Gold discovered in Yreka, the county seat.
Mid 1880’s construction of the Central Pacific Railroad (now Southern Pacific), which lead to the first wave of tourists.
Early 1940’s, State of Jefferson movement (still active), wants to create a new state from several counties of northern CA and several counties in OR

Shasta, Volcanic Landscapes, Indian Heritage, Gold Rushes, Trains, Wildlife, World Famous Trout Fishing Rivers and Streams, Snowmobile Park, Museums, Parks, Botanical Gardens, Performing Arts, Ice Rink, Art Galleries, Biking, Hiking, World Class Fishing, Climbing, Rafting, Skiing, Snowboarding, Golfing, Stock Car Racing
